A step towards cleaner oceans: Tracking fishing gear to its original owner

13 February 2018 – In a big step towards cleaner seas and safer navigation, countries agreed on a set of draft Voluntary Guidelines on Marking Fishing Gear. When abandoned, lost or discarded at sea, fishing gear, made predominantly of plastic, forms a significant component of marine debris.
